When driving a car, human senses tend to become insensitive to a minute speed change and road gradient change. This phenomenon causes excessively high and low speeds. The risk of causing traffic accidents or traffic congestion grows. It contributes to solving these problems on the road by means of information provision with less burdens for a driver.
When people perceived own movement, people take scenery into sight as a certain point. The movement of the point is called Optic Flow and people perceive own movement by this movement direction. We focused on such a human sensory characteristics and researched on means of adjusting a driving speed which changes drivers sense of speed unconsciously.
Transition of Research
We conducted experiments on a real road by installing the light-emitting devices．Under the condition aiming at an effect of speed reducing and speed recovering, the former reduced speed of 2-5km/h and the latter recovered speed of 2-13km/h.
We were able to confirm that different effects of stimulation are not only due to the gender and driving frequency of drivers, but that the effects also vary with different driving characteristics.
It was considered that the light-emitting devices way impair the drivers concentration. We conducted the real road experiment using NIRS measurement to brain activities.
